Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
1) Mushroom Kingdom’s First Hidden Chest
Content: Frog Coin
Location: In Mushroom Kingdom, be sure to save first in the inn at the far right. This one can be very tough and it’s the only time that you can unlock the chest.
Enter the palace and a short conversation with Toad follows. After the chitchat, jump quickly on Toad’s head as he is about to exit the room. Then jump once more above the doorway to uncover a Surprise Box which contains a Frog Coin. If you miss this one just reset the game until you’ve finally get it.
2) Mushroom Kingdom’s Second Hidden Chest
Content: Flower
Location: In Mushroom Kingdom, head to the item shop basement and talk to the man down there. He will tell you about a hidden treasure chest in that room. Follow his instructions to uncover the Surprise Box which contains a Flower.
3) Mushroom Kingdom’s Third Hidden Chest
Content: Flower
Location: After you uncover the chest number 2 (See no. 2), exit the room once and then go back again. Now, jump to the head of the same guy and wait for a while until he walks near the topmost right area of the room. Jump again to uncover a Treasure Box which contains another Flower.
4) Bandit’s Way Hidden Chest
Content: Kerokero Cola
Location: In Bandit’s Way second area, there is a Spinning Flower which has a Treasure Box above it. Let it spin until Mario is facing a blue static flower, then jump to uncover a Surprise Box that contains a Kerokero Cola. If your first try doesn’t work, just do it again until you hit the perfect spot.
5) Rose Town’s First Hidden Chest
Content: Frog Coin
Location: Just outside the item shop in Rosetown is a pile of crates, which you can climb on. Now, head to the roof and use the chimney to go down inside the shop. In the room, you’ll fall down on the book shelf. Head to the bottom right portion of the shelf to uncover a Surprise Box which contains a Frog Coin.
6) Rose Town’s Second Hidden Chest
Content: Frog Coin
Location: Head to the house on a hill on the left most portion of Rose Town. Then talk to the guy who is roaming near the cliff. After a chitchat, jump to his head to gain access above. Inside his house, go upstairs and jump on the bed to uncover a Surprise Box with a Frog Coin inside.
7) Forest of Maze’s First Hidden Chest
Content: Kerokero Cola
Location: In the Forest of Maze first area, head to left corner and jump to uncover a Surprise Box which contains Kerokero Cola.
8) Forest of Maze’s Second Hidden Chest
Content: Frog Coin
Location: After getting out in the first underground passage in Forest of Maze, you’ll end up in a place with a tree stump. Head to the left portion and jump to uncover a Surprise Box with Frog Coin inside.
9) Forest of Maze’s Third Hidden Chest
Content: Kerokero Cola
Location: In the area where you can find seven tree stumps in Forest of Maze, head to the farthest stump from the entrance. Go down and you’ll find a napping Wiggler inside the hollow underground. Get behind it and jump to uncover a Surprise Box which contains Kerokero Cola.
10) Forest of Maze’s Fourth Hidden Chest
Content: Flower
Location: In the area where you can find seven tree stumps in Forest of Maze, head to the first stump on the right. Go down to enter an underground slightly lighted from above. Go to the lighter spot of the place (which is in the center) and jump to uncover a Surprise Box with Flower inside.
11) Forest of Maze’s Fifth Hidden Chest
Content: None
Location: In the same area where you can find seven tree stumps in Forest of Maze, head to the second tree stump on the left side. Go down to enter an empty underground area. Walk towards a small and slightly lighted spot not far from the Smile Trampoline. Now, jump to uncover a Surprise Box, which is surprisingly empty.
12) Forest of Maze’s Sixth Hidden Chest
Content: Red Essence
Location: In the area where you can find a Save Block in Forest of Maze, head to the rightmost corner near the exit. Then jump to uncover a Surprise Box with Red Essence inside.
13) Pipe Vault’s First Hidden Chest
Content: Frog Coin
Location: In the area in Pipe Vault where you can find six pipes with Piranha Plant coming in and out, go down the second pipe. Inside the next room, head three rows up to uncover a hidden yellow block. Jump on the yellow block and to the ledge, then head 4 spaces forward and jump. This will uncover a Surprise Box which contains a Frog Coin.
14) Pipe Vault’s Second Hidden Chest

Location: In the same area where you can get the first hidden chest in Pipe Vault (See no. 13), head 4 more spaces forward which is the 8th space from the beginning. Jump once more to uncover another Surprise Box with Frog Coin inside.
15) Yo’ster Isle’s Hidden Chest
Content: Frog Coin
Location: Just when you came out of Pipe Vault, you’ll end up in an area with Save Block. Go on top of it and jump to uncover another Surprise Box with Frog Coin inside.
16) Booster Pass’ First Hidden Chest
Content: Flower
Location: From the first area of Booster Pass, head left from the entrance to the hill. Jump over the cactus on the hill and jump once more to uncover a Surprise Box which contains Flower.
17) Booster Pass’ Second Hidden Chest
Content: Rock Candy
Location: In the same area where you get the first hidden chest in Booster Pass (See no. 16), continue forward until you are near to the exit. There is another cactus on the left before the exit, go over it and jump to uncover another Surprise Box which contains Rock Candy.
18) Booster Tower’s First Hidden Chest
Content: Frog Coin
Location: In the second area of Booster Tower, where there is an endless supply of Snifits marching back and forth the stairways. Go to the top of the stairs and step on the first dark tile and jump. You’ll uncover a Surprise Box with Frog Coin inside.
19) Booster Tower’s Second Hidden Chest
Content: Frog Coin
Location: In Booster Tower, continue moving until a Thwomp threw you up from the seesaw to the room above. The same room where parachuting Snifits guarded the place. Head close to the stairways and pass through a tight passage on the wall. Go deeper inside until you reached the last space and jump. You’ll uncover a Surprise Box which contains a Frog Coin.
20) Booster Tower ’s Third Hidden Chest
Content: Goodie Bag
Location: Head further in Booster Tower until you reached the room with a Save Block and a stair of yellow blocks. Climb the yellow blocks and jump above the visible Treasure Box. From the top of that box, jump once more to uncover a Surprise Box with Goodie Bag in it.
21) Booster Tower’s Fourth Hidden Chest
Content: Mushroom
Location: In the same room where you’ve got the Goodie Bag in Booster Tower (See no. 20), head to the lower portion that leads to the exit. Step on a light tile and jump to uncover a Surprise Box with Mushroom inside.
22) Marrymore’s Hidden Chest
Content: Frog Coin
Location: Spend a night in Marrymore Inn just in regular room, not the suite.
When you wake up, head to the left side of the room and stand over the shelf. Then jump to uncover a Surprise Box with Frog Coin inside.
23) Sunken Ship’s Hidden Chest
Content: Flower
Location: In one of Sunken Ship’s room where a clone of Mario copy his every move, try to lead him to the light spot near the bottom mid portion of the room. Then jump over the clone’s head and jump again to uncover a Surprise Box with a Flower in it.
24) Land’s End First Hidden Chest
Content: Red Essence
Location: In the first area of Land’s End, head to the Pot Cannon that will throw Mario to the yellow block. On the block, position yourself to the upper portion and wait for it to move upwards. When it reaches the apex, quickly jump forward to uncover the Surprise Box which contains Red Essence.
25) Land’s End Second Hidden Chest
Content: Kerokero Cola
Location: In the second area of Land’s End, head to the Pot Cannon to get yourself thrown on the ground which has a distinctive hole. Stand on the right side of the hole and jump to uncover a block. Then go back to the Pot Cannon and let yourself be the cannonball again. This time, however, aim yourself to end up on the top of block which you’ve recently uncovered. When perfectly done, the block will start moving. Finally, position yourself on the left and jump to uncover a Surprise Box which contains a Kerokero Cola.
26) Land’s End Third Hidden Chest
Content: Frog Coin
Location: In Land’s End area where there are platforms of different level that can only be accessed through the Spinning Flower, head to the two static blue flowers next to the plateau. Jump over one of the flowers and jump in between them to uncover the Surprise Box with Frog Coin inside.
27) Land’s End Fourth Hidden Chest
Content: Frog Coin
Location: Below the Land’s End floating bridge of blocks is a cavern beneath the cliff, which leads you back to Kero Sewers. Enter the first area and go to its lower portion where the Chow is located. Jump around until you hit the Surprise Box with a Frog Coin in it.
28) Belome’s Temple First Hidden Chest
Content: Frog Coin
Location: After the area in Belome’s Temple where your fortune was picked, go to the gate and enter. In the next room, you’ll find two boxes that can be accessed by jumping on the blocks beside them. Jump on the highest ledge and go to the box near the entrance. Jump on the top of the box and jump once more to uncover the Surprise Box with Frog Coin inside.
29) Belome’s Temple Second Hidden Chest

Location: In the same room in Belome’s Temple where the first hidden chest can be found (See no. 28), go down the stairs. Move forward to the first row of tiles and stand on the corner just before you reached the other visible box. Now, jump to uncover the Surprise Box which contains a Frog Coin.
30) Monstro Town’s Hidden Chest
Content: Flower
Location: Go to the last door of Monstro Town which is in the farthest right. Enter the room and you’ll end up in a small area where you can find a note on the wall. Jump on to the bush beside that note and jump again to uncover the Surprise Box which contains a Flower.
31) Bean Valley’s First Hidden Chest
Content: Rock Candy
Location: From the very first area of Bean Valley, go down to the right pipe. In the next area where you came out, head to the farthest left corner and jump to uncover the Surprise Box with Rock Candy in it.
32) Bean Valley’s Second Hidden Chest
Content: Kerokero Cola
Location: In the area of Bean Valley where there are five pipes guarded by Piranha Plants, enter the lower right pipe. In the next area, head underneath the visible box. From the box, go down the corridor until you reached the second to the last tile of that row. Now, jump to uncover the Surprise Box with Kerokero Cola inside.
33) Bean Valley’s Third Hidden Chest
Content: Red Essence
Location: In the same area of Bean Valley where the five pipes guarded by Piranha Plants are located, enter the farthest right pipe. In the next area, head to the rightmost portion and jump on the corner before you reach the stairs. You’ll uncover a Surprise Box that contains Red Essence.
34) Nimbus Land’s First Hidden Chest
Content: Frog Coin
Location: Enter the item shop in Nimbus Land and jump on the boxes at the back. While on top of the block, run and jump towards the shopkeeper behind the desk. This action uncovers the hidden Surprise Box above, which contains Frog Coin.
35) Nimbus Land’s Second Hidden Chest
Content: Frog Coin
Location: Inside the palace of Nimbus Land, head to the grand hallway which has three doors. Go to the left door near the bird cage and jump to uncover the Surprise Box with Frog Coin inside.
36) Nimbus Land’s Third Hidden Chest
Content: Frog Coin
Location: In the same room in Nimbus Land’s palace (See no. 35), enter the left door. In the next room, go down the stairs until you meet Jawful (the one that wields a three-pronged fork). Defeat it first and stand on the same ground where it was before. Then, jump to uncover the hidden Surprise Box which contains yet another Frog Coin.
37) Nimbus Land’s Fourth Hidden Chest
Content: Frog Coin
Location: In the same room in Nimbus Land’s palace where you encountered Jawful (See no. 36), head to the empty dark space and go further until you reached the innermost portion. Now, jump up to uncover the Surprise Box which contains another Frog Coin.
38) Nimbus Land Fifth Hidden Chest
Content: Frog Coin
Location: Inside the palace of Nimbus Land, head to the door at the back of the room where you defeated Birdo. In the next room, jump on the top of the visible box and jump once more above to uncover the Surprise Box, which contains the final Frog Coin.
39) Smithy’s Factory Hidden Chest
Content: Mushroom
Location: In Smithy’s Factory, head to the gate until you reached the second Save Block located on the middle. Now stand in the lower left corner and jump to uncover the Surprise Box which contains a Mushroom.
